Heya Sternal Journalists,
I did my first run of 100 Julian Sterns Ranked By Hotness Alone. It was absolute chaos and a lot of fun. The most intense review I have gotten is this one:
“I cried, almost peed myself, had to grab the chair in front of me, put my head down, kegal like there was no tomorrow then both tears and drool hit the floor.”
That’s crazy, I love it.
If you don’t remember or know, 100 Julians is a show where I do penance for having worked on the Maxim Hot 100 (ranking women based on their looks—bad) by having an audience rank 100 versions of me.
Here is the winning picture for show #1:
It is a selfie I took while I was pooping, and to be honest, the fact that it got #1 is what makes this show great. People were iffy on it, and then everyone hated it when I found out it was a poop selfie, and then some sort of weird mass hysteria took over and everyone started to say thing like, “You know what, maybe that’s brave.”
Here is the losing picture:
I have censored it because it’s a picture of a cyst behind my ear that I left too long to the point that I had to go have a procedure to get it drained. Whatever that is, that’s what kinda show this is.
And here’s an out of context fun clip. If you’re a fringe person, I hope you come check it out!
Also big thanks to my openers, Arthur Steur and Harper-Rose Drummond. Both funny, weird people you should look out for:
And finally! I got a shout-out in a cool tastemaker-y newsletter Fringe preview for having a great title. Here’s a fun graphic that gives you all the pertinent info:
ALRIGHT!
I gotta go, so recs are quick this week!
Recommendations!
Superman. Movie. Everyone’s seeing, and for good reason!
Why Does My Mind Keep Thinking That? Podcast Ep. I found this episode of Ezra Klein to be super thoughtful and meditative, while also questioning some of the assumptions we make about mindfulness. (For some reason, I’m having trouble with hyperlinks so you’re gonna have to google it if you want it. Very sorry).
Joaquin Phoenix on Theo Von. Podcast. My dad texted my family an article about how long form podcasts are taking over, along with the text “I fucking hate long-form podcasts!” I love this take, but I also loved this podcast.
Indie Shakes. Event. If you’re in Los Angeles, there’s an excellent Shakespeare-in-the-park going on right now Weds-Sat through the end of August. Currently Love’s Labour’s Lost and about to be Doctor Faustus. Look at that!
Alrighty, hope you have a wonderful week!
Love!
Julian!
