Hello Sternal Journalists,
I’m back at Edinburgh Fringe and here is how it’s going:
And that *is* how it’s going, including the smiles! I’m having a real bad-day-at-Fringe-is-a-great-day-anywhere-else experience, so while there are trials and tribulations, I’m still gorging on sausage rolls and well-paced half pints and poorly-paced whiskies. I still am buzzing about the ability to walk into the greatest acrobatic and operatic performances I have ever seen (this was the same show, mind you). And I’m still threatening to move to Edinburgh and find a way to extend my run because I miss my friends and my family and my scene and my city(/ies), but there is just something special here even when thinks aren’t going according to plan.
I’m in a rush today to try to go cajole more audience into enjoying my show, so I”m just going to leave you with two discordant things:
This passage from the book I’m really enjoying, Four Thousand Weeks:
The fact that there is a font in CapCut (mobile video editing software which I begrudgingly use, but it devours my attention every time I do) called “Comedy Scene.” The only thing I hate more than this font existing is the fact that it is part of the Pro plan, so you have to pay to use it (insert many crying emojis)
Okay, that’s all for today. Sending love! Special Fringe themed recs: If you are in Edinburgh, the shows I’ve seen and enjoyed are Mark Pleases You (clown, storytelling!), Astonishing Obscurity (stand-up), In Everglade Studio (musical chaos play), and Reclaim (that opera acrobat thing I mentioned above).
