Howdy Sternal Journalists,
A quicky tonight without header or footer because I got too much going on! (Although I’ll recommend this spoken word AA Rashid opening track off of Westside Gunn’s new album, 10, the song “Distant Melody” from the Mary Martin Peter Pan, and the new Amazon show The Peripheral, which is a fun if at times corny sci-fi about a woman in 2030 who gets mixed up with technology that allows her consciousness to travel 70 years in the future.)
Anyway, I’ve got my shows coming up in Austin from November 16th through 20th, but if you’re in LA, this Saturday, I’m doing a surprise comedy day party which will entail me trying to stretch my Fringe half hour into 40 minutes, another comic or two, hopefully a wonderful DJ, and some mimosas.
Here are the posters I made tonight:
If you’re in LA, I’d love to see you there but plan to do it again so no stress if you’re busy! I will be sharing these more widely once I’ve confirmed I’m actually allowed to give out mimosas.
Anyway here’s a poem draft I found in my notes. It’s about always needing to turn moments into jokes or writing or whatever:
Just let it be life
Ah fuck you’ve already failed.
Look at the way this feeling is “art” now. This notion is a poem. You wanted, reminded, and goaded yourself to live a little without feeding it into the little food processor you call craft.
And even that moment you couldn’t hold. You said “oops” and tossed it in with an apologetic wince.
Oh you foolish foolish foolish fool. And even now, you think this is romantic somehow.
UGH!
And here’s the note that was next to it in my notes app:
Carl Winslow would have been maga?
Absolute mania! Double anyway, come on out to the show on Saturday if you’re around. Sorry this one was especially unproofread!
Love,
Julian
