Show today! And it's not at the time I told you it was! (It's at 5PM, not 5:30)
Hello all!
Actually very quickly: in my last e-mail, I promoted Julian Stern, As Per Usual, Blows You Away and incorrectly said that it starts at 5:30PM! It actually starts at 5:00PM.
So on the off chance you were planning on coming and only ever saw it on Sternal Journal but not any of the multitude of social posts where I correctly listed the time, there you have it! Again, Julian Stern, As Per Usual, Blows You Away is at 5:00PM PST at The Lyric Hyperion Theater.
If you can't make it, I will be putting it up again!
Quick recs:
Podcast: FREAKNIK: A Discourse on a Paradise Lost If you're an Emory friend or Atlanta and/or rap music hold special places in your heart, you'll love this 8 part docuseries on what Freaknik was, why it went away, and how it is so very emblematic of the city of Atlanta.
Album: The Fall of Hobo Johnson I mentioned this guy before, but his new album is out. I'm a bit obsessed.
Book: Don't Read Poetry: A Book on How To Read Poems I've always been intrigued but entirely confounded by poetry and how to process it, and this book is the perfect antidote. The author points out the somewhat obvious fact that there are many different types of poetry and just like you wouldn't say "MM, I'm in the mood to listen to some music right now," but rather "I'm in the mood to listen to some [Danny Brown/Dudamel/The Smash Soundtrack] right now," you need to understand types of poetry to understand the ones you will like/want to read in that moment. I'm still reading it, but I like it.
Okay BYYYYYE have a great Sunday. If anyone reading this is Emmy nominated, good luck. If anyone reading this is not Emmy nominated, also good luck. Every day is your own awards show, don't focus too much on institution-manufactured benchmarks.
(and come to my show. If you're on the fence and e-mail or text me before noon, I can maybe get you a comp)
